RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITY / Colloquium

The interdisciplinary Colloquium is the intellectual heart of our community. It is the regular occasion when members gather for conversation on their work and the free exchange of ideas among themselves. In the Colloquium, members take a turn presenting to colleagues work in progress on their CTI research. They seek to discern the core passions and questions motivating the inquiry and think alongside of their colleague on the problems being addressed. In a lively atmosphere characterized by mutual respect, growing trust, and openness to fresh thinking, members contribute questions and insights and are willing to be challenged by their colleague’s work. These conversations raise wider questions that continue long after the Colloquium has ended. While there is no guarantee that fresh thinking will emerge every time these encounters take place, members express deep gratitude for this rare opportunity to think aloud with outstanding scholars beyond their own disciplines and from around the world.

“It was a luxury beyond words to have the opportunity of extended conversations with other members of the Colloquium.” - Ernst Conradie
