J. Houston Witherspoon Research Fellowship
in Theology and Natural ScienceApplications are invited for this endowed membership at the Center of Theological Inquiry in the academic year 2009-2010, to be received by July 15, 2008. The fellowship was established by a gift of the late J. Houston Witherspoon of St Louis, Missouri, to further conversation between theology and natural science. Appointment as a fellow and member in residence at the Center is for a period of six to twelve months.
The fellowship was established in the conviction that disciplinary boundaries are to a considerable extent arbitrary, and that inquiry should be less impeded by them than is usual within the academy’s present structure. Proposals for a course of advanced research leading to publication that would further the conversation between theology and the natural sciences are invited. Applications may be made by natural scientists, philosophers and theologians. Both established and more junior scholars may apply. Applications for the purpose of completing a dissertation will not be considered.
The research fellow will be provided a residence in the Center’s complex of townhouses, a fully equipped study in Luce Hall, adjacent to Princeton Theological Seminary and Princeton University, clerical support, and access to the seminary and university libraries. Financial support will be negotiated, and will in part depend on length of residence and the extent of other resources available to the individual.
