MAJOR GIFTS
The Center of Theological Inquiry is the beneficiary of major gifts from visionary individuals and organizations that have enhanced our endowment, facilities and program since 1978. We look to a new generation of visionary donors to build on this remarkable legacy and advance our mission for the 21st century.
The Center’s home, Luce Hall, was funded in large part by the Henry Luce Foundation, under the leadership of Henry Luce III, and named in honor of his father, Henry R. Luce, co-founder of Time magazine. The Center’s Vella Handly Templeton Townhouses for our resident scholars were funded by a gift in honor of his mother from Sir John Templeton. J. Houston Witherspoon and William B. Witherspoon established an endowed fellowship and a public lectureship in theology and the natural sciences to support the Center’s interdisciplinary mission. William H. Scheide, the distinguished Princeton philanthropist and a founding trustee on our Board, has also set up a named fellowship in theology as part of his generous support for the Center since its foundation. And we are grateful to bodies like Princeton Theological Seminary, Lilly Endowment Inc. and Henry Luce Foundation, for grants to support our work over the years.
The Center therefore welcomes inquiries from those who share our goals and wish to consider a major gift that will strengthen our endowment, sustain our facilities and develop our program to meet the challenges of a changing world. Please contact the Director to discuss giving to the Center in this way. Join our visionary company of leading donors and help generate fresh thinking for our times. Thank you.
